New Milestones

So last night Scarlett figured out how to pull herself up to standing. It was hilarious. She did it during family prayer and we found out as she pulled everything off the couch. She was so proud of herself. And she has continued to figure out what all she can use to stand up. This week she has also finally figured out how to roll from her back to her belly. (It's like she's all of the sudden catching up!) And it has made trying to change her diaper quite the event. It was hilarious, she was like a little turtle. If you laid her on her back she was stuck there and couldn't go anywhere. The girls loved it once she started crawling and getting into stuff - they would just lay her down. (Which is probably why she finally learned how to roll over...) I have to say, I was kinda worried about how far she was behind in some of the development stuff....but now I think of all the things we haven't had to do (lowering the crib, lots of baby proofing) and it was kind of a...

Say No in a Mean Voice

Last night Scarlett became quite the fiend about shutting the TV off. Riley and Alexandra were getting very upset, so we talked about how we needed to teach Scarlett "No!". I told the girls that they needed to say it to her in a mean voice, so that she would be able to tell the difference. After a while Riley started crying because she didn't want to be mean to Scarlett, so we then had a long talk. We talked about how parents have to sometimes be mean in order to teach their children and that it hurts our feelings to do that, but because we know our children will be better off in the long run we put up with feeling bad. It was kind of amazing to see Riley realize that parents don't like to punish their kids. Scarlett has been a little better this morning about the TV. She now looks around to see if anyone is watching her before she pushes the button. If she's being watched she'll sit back down and give you this cute smile that says "I wasn't d...

A New Holiday!

Today on the way home from Kindergarten, Alexandra and I were talking about how she has a field trip on June 1st - which is also Scarlett's birthday. Alexandra got very excited and then asked me "Is she born on June Fool's day just like me?" For those that don't recall - Alexandra's birthday is April 1st.

Attitude

So a few weeks ago when I posted that Alexandra was not going through a preteen phase, I must have jinxed myself. If the last few weeks are any prediction of what she's gonna be like as a teenager, I'm not sure she's gonna survive...or that I will.... She has just had this horrible attitude lately. She doesn't want to listen to me and she questions everything I say. The worst that has happened was when we were at school one day setting up the lunch for teacher appreciation week. Scarlett was in her stroller and I was watching a baby for a friend and she was in her carrier. Alexandra kept pushing the stroller and moving it all over the place. So I'd spent 20 minutes telling her to leave the stroller alone. When we left, I parked the stroller on the sidewalk in front of the van and went to put the carrier in the van. Alexandra was again screwing around with the stroller and I told her to stop it. She gave me this look and then gave the stroller a push. Then ...
