Lakeside
Last night we took the girls to Lakeside. For those of you not in Colorado, Lakeside is an amusement park....a very old amusement park. It's really just a few steps up from the traveling amusement park rides. But it is fun and it only costs like $9 to get in. Several of the libraries here give free tickets during the summer reading programs, and we did programs at 2 different libraries. We went with family and friends and it was a great time, till I injured myself, but I will talk about that in a minute.
Alexandra was so silly this time she barely rode anything at all. We had used free tickets the week before we went to Seattle and that time she would ride on a lot of the kiddie rides. Riley and Elias (her cousin) rode tons of rides together. They were inseparable. It was so cute. They were holding hands and running towards rides together. Their favorite ride which they went on like 5 times was a canoe ride. I swear it's the most boring ride in the whole park but they love it. Imagine a little canoe that goes in a sort of circle shaped "river", but is so slow that it sometimes gets stuck. And the "exciting" part is when you go through a teepee for like 2 seconds...well more like a minute because the waters so slow. Riley has been very brave. Both times we've went she has tried new rides, and hated almost all of them. But the fact that she was still willing to try rides this time is great! Both girls love bumper cars (which Dean and I have to drive), and they cheer us on as we try to ram into each other. I got to go on the Scrambler, which I love! Riley went with me last time and spent the entire ride screaming "We're gonna crash! We're gonna die!" I felt so bad for her last time, she only went so I wouldn't have to ride alone. When we rode the train (a 10 minute train ride around the "Lake") Riley wanted to ride with Elias so she asked me if it was ok if she rode by herself with him. She's getting to be so big, soon she won't even be wanting to ride with me on anything. Ok that will probably be in a couple of years, but I can still see it coming and it's not a happy thought.
So here's my injury story. I was walking to go and talk to Annie when I tripped over the sidewalk. (Now think to yourself...old amusement park....not very well taken care of....and then picture a sidewalk with edges that have like an inch of cement sticking up.) Now I was thinking to myself "I'm gonna fall", but I tried to not fall - which didn't work so well. And totally in my mind it was all slow motion and I'm thinking as I fall "I'm such a dork". You have to think that in slow motion too to get the full effect (I had Dean cracking up last night with my impression of myself.) Of course I fall right by a line for a ride so there are tons of people around. And yes they were all being nice and polite and checking on me and the whole time I'm like "Crap, why did anyone have to see that." It only added to my feeling like a total dork. So my one arm is scrapped from wrist to elbow, the elbow being the worst. One of the ladies in line was handing me band-aids for my blood-dripping elbow. My other hand was scrapped on the palm, but it doesn't look too bad today. And my one knee got scrapped - through my denim capris....which I think are still ok, I haven't really looked at them though. And this morning I feel like a total gimp. It hurts like 10 times worse then it looks. Anytime I move my arm, my elbow hurts, and it hurts to walk....yeah I'm a total dork....or more like "I'm.....such....a.....dork.......!!!" It's lots funnier in slow motion!
