I'm not as mean as my mom was....

So tonight while the girls are in the tub, they ask me for some curious george soap to play with. This soap looks kinda like shaving cream, or blue whipped cream, so I tell the girls (mostly Alexandra) not to eat it. Riley asks me why and I reply because soap tastes nasty. Riley then asks me how I know soap tastes nasty and I reply because it's soap. She then giggles and says "You know because Grammy made you eat it. She told me so!" Lately one of Riley's favorite things to hear are stories of me misbehaving when I was little. And although my mom has tons to choose from she apparently has told her how she used to make us eat dish soap whenever we were caught lieing or saying not so nice things. Anyway, so I reply to Riley about how mean Grammy was and how I'm not such a mean mommy. She giggles at me and I said "Don't you think Grammy was mean?" She looks at me smugly and says "Yeah, to you!" and then proceeds to giggle again. Apparently ...

Grateful but scary

Most days I am extremely grateful for Dean's job. But this week has been the first time in almost 5 years that I've been kinda scared for him on his job. He had signed up to work the DNC , which thankfully he didn't get! But when he comes home from work with all the stories of what's going on it has made me realize how dangerous his job can be at times. Now I know his job is one that's dangerous, but he's been doing it for so long without any problems, that I find myself in a comfort zone that doesn't recognize the danger. Which is in a way good for my sanity, because if I was worried everytime he went to work, I'd drive myself insane. This week I really feel for all the cops who are working the DNC . They are putting up with so much from the protesters and all the people around who are just waiting to videotape one of them stepping so much as an inch out of line. So far it hasn't been too bad, and I'm praying that things stay calm. But when y...

IT'S DONE!!!

YEAH!!!! It's all over and done with and it was a success! I wish I had some pictures, but after the first day of school pictures, I wasn't sure I wanted to ask Dean to take some more (hehehe). Plus I was super busy so there was no way for me to take them. The girls had a blast! They won lots of prizes and had a great time. My feet and my back are killing me though. I did win two of the drawings! I won a soccer ball (it's a really cool one) and a book about fishes from Barnes & Nobles. We had such a great turn out and you could see all the kids having so much fun. It really was worth all the headaches and effort that went into it. We did get to have the fire department and they brought a fire truck and an ambulance that the kids got to get up in and walk around and see all the inside stuff. Then they had a free spin wheel to win prizes. Both girls won little plastic fire helmets. Then we had two construction vehicles from the city and the kids got to get up...

Pics!

Image
Here are a couple of pics from Riley's first day of school. I would just like to say that Dean took them. So you might have to look for Riley in 2 of them....lol! I was busy with the bagels for the kindergarten parents. This last one is of the opening ceremonies...yeah you can barely see her. She's behind the girl in the green outfit. All I can say is I'm not letting Dean do the pics again. I wonder what his crime scene photos look like???

Pulling my hair out!!!

I feel like screaming and crying and then going to sleep for 5 days....if it were possible anyway. Crazy week has just been getting crazier and more hectic. So over the weekend our stove broke. Not just little broke, but huge broke. I had decided that since it was a cold, rainy day to have the stove do a self-clean (one, it needed it and two, it would warm up the house a little bit). Well it had about 20 mins left of cleaning when I got in the shower and when I got out the digital display was completely blank. And since the display controls turning the oven on....yeah no cooking for me. The part alone to fix it was going to be over $400, not including the labor. Could it have waited one week to do this...no it has to be on carnival week. Monday I had a horrible headache. Sometimes I wonder if my headaches are like other peoples migraines...The migraines I had that were caused by the toxic mold in the apartment were so horrible that the ones I get now have no comparison. I reme...

Riley's First Day of School

So yesterday was Riley's first day of school. We did take pictures with Deans work camera, but we have to wait till they put them on a disc for us (CST policy). But then I will post them. She was so excited! She got the teacher that she wanted this year. And several of her "best friends" from 1st grade are in her class this year. It's gonna be a huge class, about 24 kids. She told me yesterday that one of her "boyfriends from last year" is in her class. It made me laugh, Dean on the other hand wasn't too excited about her choice of words. She was exhausted though when she got home from school. But apparently they made puzzles with their hand prints and she was excited. They did an "Opening Ceremony" yesterday - since the olympics are going right now. The had all the teachers make class room flags and then they all walked to the flag pole in front of the school. Then they said the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to the National Anthem. Then al...

Busy Week

Goodness! Last week was incredibly busy. We were trying to cram everything in before school starts - TOMORROW!! Riley is so excited. She will find out tonight at Back to School night who her new teacher is. I'm excited for school to start as well, although I would really have liked a few more weeks of summer. I'm just able to get more done when Riley is in school though. We're probably gonna do Joy School with Alexandra this year too (we're still waiting to hear from the mom who's been in charge of it for years). She will have a blast if we're able to do it. She just wants lots of friends her age - when I tell her I'm her friend she gives me this look and says she doesn't want grown-up friends. Last week we went bowling. The girls love it. I completely suck at it. So since they get to use bumpers, they usually beat me. Riley told me this time she thought I should get to use the bumpers too. What can I say - the gutter just has this magnetic...
