Another great day at Joy School

Today was another great lesson by yours truly!! I really enjoyed teaching this week. It was a great time and the kids were great!

Today part of our snack time was about popping popcorn. I was supposed to have an old fashioned popper to do it, but couldn't find one anywhere. I couldn't even find an air popper. (I only looked at thrift stores...there was no way I was shelling out $20 for a popcorn popper at the store) And since I didn't think that 4 year olds would like watching my microwave I bought one of the Jiffypop pans that you do on the stove and it was great!!


The kids had a blast. They had no idea what we were going to be making and as the tin foil got bigger and bigger they were all asking if it was going to explode!

They loved that they got to eat it! And you know what, it wasn't that bad for being cooked on the stove in a tin foil pop up thing!

We read the story of Caps for Sale. Now the lesson said to have caps and reenact the story with the kids. Well, I don't have any hats, so I used the butcher paper from the finger/toe painting on Tuesday and made newspaper hats! The kids loved being the monkeys and imitating me (the peddler) after they had stolen my hats while I was napping. Then I let them decorate them and they got to have something to take home!

They then got to blow bubbles in solution with straws. They loved it! And surprisingly enough it was not that messy!!!


Then we went outside to paint with water. At first they looked at me like "Water?" But then they had a good time.

Although in the midst of painting they found a huge grasshopper. They were using their paintbrushes and flinging water at it. So I asked them if they wanted to catch it in a bug jar. I gave them the jar and then stood as far back as I could. There was no way I was gonna be near it when it hopped. And those brave girls (Colin wasn't quite as brave) trapped it! I was quite impressed!

It's seriously huge! Probably about 2 1/2 inches long. They decided it was a cricket who was a girl and it's name was Cricky. I'm going to wait until Dean gets home tonight and then he can let it out. And if it dies in the mean time, oh well, the world is has one less huge grasshopper!

Scarlett has arrived!!!!! She was born on Monday, June 1st at 5:06pm. Making her exactly 6 weeks early. She was 6lbs 6oz and 19 inches long. She is doing SOOOOO good!!! She continues to surprise everyone in the NICU. We're not sure how long she's going to be in there, but they are not ready to release me yet either so, we're both making the hospital our new home for a bit. Everyone seems really impressed with all that she's able to do. She is not on any machines and is doing great with her breathing and keeping her own temperature. She is VERY red though.....so living up to her name! Her red blood cell count was in the 60's when she was born, so we've been anticipating her needing to go under the billirubin lights, which they just started. A Year of Horrible

I have debated writing/telling people about this because it's not completely my story, but then again, it is, because I'm living through it as the mom.  So as a friend and/or family member reading this, please remember that I'm entrusting you with sensitive thoughts.  And yes I know this is also on the internet, so anyone could read it as well.  But I also know that I needed a place to write all of this down and get it recorded.  It will help me as I sort though all we are going through and it could possibly help others. My Irrational Fears

Now maybe this is normal, but since I'm not really sure what a "normal" pregnancy should be I have no idea. But lately I have worries about everything. Mostly it has to do with the baby being born healthy. When I told Dean about them the other night, he was like "Wow, I had no idea you had that much that you were worried about". So here's my list. #1 - Driving in the car. It scares me to death now. I really have no reason for it to scare me since I have never had a car accident. But every time I'm behind the wheel all I can think about is what if someone hits me. I'm wearing a seat belt and that could hurt the baby. If the airbag goes off, that could hurt the baby. Let alone if it's a really bad accident.... #2 - I can't open any of the stuff we've bought for the baby. And this is so unlike me, I love to open stuff and put it together. But this time all I can think of is I can't open it, what if something happens to the baby. We can...
