1st Day of School - For Real This Time!

So today was the "Real" 1st day of school. Here are pictures of the girls in their new "Grammy-Made Dresses". If you click on the picture (it should give you a big picture) you can see the designs on the material better. Alexandra's is an ABC Raggedy Ann and Andy print (perfect for a 1st day at school dress - I think I had one that was black with ABC's on it one year too!) and Riley's has dragonflies (bugs for our Riley-bug.)




And they did a flag ceremony again this year. Here are pictures of Alexandra.



And I had trouble finding Riley in the huge crowd of kids, but I got a picture of her as they were headed back to their classrooms.


They both had great days! Although Alexandra was upset at the end of her day. They had homework over the weekend to put 5 items in a brown lunch bag for a show-and-tell about themselves. Well, what show-and-tell about Alexandra would be complete without some sort of Pokemon? They didn't get through the whole class, so they were going to have to leave them at the school....and yep, she didn't want to leave her Pikachu. So when one of the sets of twins (there are 2 in her class) was also upset about leaving their favorite toys, Mrs. P (the Aide) let us go back in the class and get their toys to bring home. So everything was ok then.

I had some photocopies to make for PTA so Alexandra went with me early to pick Riley up so I could get them done. When we walked by her classroom, she was so excited - I had to stop her from interrupting the PM kindergarten class. She was going to go visit her classroom.

Apparently her teacher Mrs. L really likes frogs. There are frogs everywhere in her class. And today she showed them a new chart. It has a red lily pad, yellow lily pad, and green lily pad. They have little frogs with their names on them. And when they are being good their frog stays on the green lily pad, but if they get a warning they go to the yellow lily pad, and the red lily pad "is for the bad kids" as Alexandra told me. She was very excited about the red lily pad....I'm not sure whether that should concern me....

And just to add a note about "Grammy-Made Dresses". We were at the store the other day and the girls were wearing some sundresses that my mom had made them (in fact you can see one of them here - it's the one Alexandra is wearing.) This little girl was behind us and she was very loudly telling her mom how she liked Riley and Alexandra's dresses and how she wanted one just like it. Riley told me (very proudly) "She can never have a dress like this, because our Grammy made them just for us!"

Our Newest Addition!

Scarlett has arrived!!!!! She was born on Monday, June 1st at 5:06pm. Making her exactly 6 weeks early. She was 6lbs 6oz and 19 inches long. She is doing SOOOOO good!!! She continues to surprise everyone in the NICU. We're not sure how long she's going to be in there, but they are not ready to release me yet either so, we're both making the hospital our new home for a bit. Everyone seems really impressed with all that she's able to do. She is not on any machines and is doing great with her breathing and keeping her own temperature. She is VERY red though.....so living up to her name! Her red blood cell count was in the 60's when she was born, so we've been anticipating her needing to go under the billirubin lights, which they just started. A Year of Horrible

I have debated writing/telling people about this because it's not completely my story, but then again, it is, because I'm living through it as the mom.  So as a friend and/or family member reading this, please remember that I'm entrusting you with sensitive thoughts.  And yes I know this is also on the internet, so anyone could read it as well.  But I also know that I needed a place to write all of this down and get it recorded.  It will help me as I sort though all we are going through and it could possibly help others. This last year has been horrific.  Really and truly there isn't another word for it.  I didn't realize how much trauma I have truly been through until yesterday when I was on Facebook and I was looking at posts from other moms of their kiddos starting middle school.  Now I know middle school is bad.  I went through it already with Riley, but Alexandra was a whole new playing field.  Seeing those pictures I had a literal awf...

My Irrational Fears

Now maybe this is normal, but since I'm not really sure what a "normal" pregnancy should be I have no idea. But lately I have worries about everything. Mostly it has to do with the baby being born healthy. When I told Dean about them the other night, he was like "Wow, I had no idea you had that much that you were worried about". So here's my list. #1 - Driving in the car. It scares me to death now. I really have no reason for it to scare me since I have never had a car accident. But every time I'm behind the wheel all I can think about is what if someone hits me. I'm wearing a seat belt and that could hurt the baby. If the airbag goes off, that could hurt the baby. Let alone if it's a really bad accident.... #2 - I can't open any of the stuff we've bought for the baby. And this is so unlike me, I love to open stuff and put it together. But this time all I can think of is I can't open it, what if something happens to the baby. We can...
